The Cheeseman Prize English Essay Writing Competition was set up in 1949 to commemorate H. R. Cheeseman, CMG, Director of Education during the Malayan Union era. The Competition is open to students pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or Foundation Studies at the University of Malaya.
The Cheeseman Prize English Essay Writing Competition is held annually in the Second Semester of each Academic Session. This prize is in commemoration of the late Mr. H. R. Cheeseman, CMG, former Director of Education of the Federation of Malaya. The prizes in the form of cash awards are funded by the interest gained from the Cheeseman Prize Endowment Fund. In addition to the cash prizes, certificates will be given to winners and participants of the competition.
Prizes are awarded for essays in English on topics with a Malaysian focus.
